Who we are

Quiet Journal is made by Oleksandr Butenko, an independent developer based in Spain (“we”). Contact: hello@alexbut.com.

Your entries

Your moods, lines, voice transcripts, letters and settings are stored on your iPhone, protected by iOS data protection and, if you turn it on, by Face ID. Deleting the app deletes them. They may be included in your iPhone backups, depending on your settings.

If you turn on iCloud sync (Pro), a copy is stored in your own private iCloud database under your Apple Account. Only you can access it; we cannot. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Sunday letters and Ask your journal

Letters and answers are written by Apple's language model running on your iPhone. If your iPhone can't run the model on the device, the app may use Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which Apple designed to process a request without storing it or making it available to Apple or anyone else. We never receive your entries, letters or questions. We don't use any third-party AI service.

To keep you safe, the app checks your entries on your iPhone for words that may mean you are at risk, so it can show helplines. This check never leaves your phone.

Voice

Voice to text (Pro) uses Apple's speech recognition on your iPhone. Audio is not saved and not sent to us.

Notifications

Reminders and letter notifications are scheduled on your iPhone. We do not run a push-notification server.

Purchases

Quiet Journal Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your name, card or Apple Account details. The app checks your purchase on the device using Apple's StoreKit.

Diagnostics

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. These never include your entries and do not identify you.

Tracking and third parties

Quiet Journal contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.

Children

Quiet Journal is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data and to object to its processing. Your entries are under your control in the app (edit, export, delete). We do not hold personal data about you, but you can always write to us. You may also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the AEPD.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
